Since the late 1990s, my personal projects have involved the creation of conceptually based sociopolitical themes that address cultural dynamics, the deconstruction of truth & modernity, as well as gender location and the evolving of self.

My work is intended as dialogue, engaging the viewer in a musing and unraveling of the aesthetic—teasing out threads bound in historical, political & social contexts. Drawing on cultural observation, literary sources and introspection I focus on themes of identity, social behavior, and family relations.

A native of Cape Ann, JC Gray Sawyer resides in Northampton, Massachusetts.
She received a B.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
